As the National Geographic magazine presented the Crimean Peninsula and the «Swallow Nest» castle as one of the best Trips 2013 we couldn’t leave Yalta without visiting the famous castle.
The castle was built in the early twentieth century between 1911 and 1912 on a cliff that juts out over the Black Sea. The «Swallow’s Nest» castle was built in a Neo-Gothic design by the Russian architect Leonid Sherwood for the Baltic German oil millionaire Baron von Steingel.
Just less than 30 minutes by taxi; not far away from town center in Yalta and you are in extremely beautiful place! From the main road we walked down the stone stairs to the «Swallow’s Nest» castle …
but there is a much quicker way … You can have a ride down the rope as the climber just for £18. Some tourists enjoy this attraction
The castle is amazing! There is no any other place like this in the World!
There is one special spot on the rock near the castle. It’s called «The Tree of Wishes».
You made a wish and put some money to the «treasure chest». The legend tells about the owner of this land who made a wish to see a stone castle on this rock. He left three golden coins on this spot over night. When he came back in the morning he found the Tree of Wishes growing on the same spot. Then the owner of the land made a wish the stone castle would be built here. Locals believe all wishes made here will come truth. Sure we made our wishes here too
After a long walk and climbing the rocks we became very hungry and had some snack in a cafe with fantastic view.
Alexei and I came back to Yalta by boat which was very pleasant and fun too.
